Luckily we spoke to a couple that were in the room next to ours who walked to the sunrise viewing point instead of getting the jeep so we decided to do the same. We left about 4am and walked up to the view point, all the land cruisers passed us during the climb but when we reached the steep part all the land cruisers were parked up, those who paid had to walk anyway so it was a great idea to walk. The view from the volcano was amazing. you could see Mt Mahamaru puffing away in the background and Bromo in the front. The view over the whole crater was stunning. We stayed after all the people in the jeeps left and enjoyed the quiet before walking back down along the crater edge with more great views. After breakfast we got the bus back at 9 and got another bus to Baluran National park. The bus broke down along the way so we waited for another one at the side of the road but when one arrived it was full so all the westerners had to sit in the isle. Two hours later we arrived at Baluran, it is said to be similar to Africa in its landscape and some of the animals (deer and buffalo) and jeep safaris can be arranged. The Jeep ride to our accommodation 12km into the park gave us the opportunity to see monkeys, birds, deer, a cat in a tree and a gorgeous sunset behind the mountain. Dinner was chicken fried rice and a fried egg, this was the only thing on the menu for every meal!
