Kota Kinabalu is Not the cute town Kuching is so we went out to Manukan Island rather than spend the day on the streets. The island was 15mins by speed boat and was the most popular with the locals of the few islands off KK. We had two hours on the island and spent the whole time snorkelling, but spotted the small monitor lizard (pic below) on the way. The water was warm the clarity was ok but pretty good given how close it is to the city. We saw plenty of fish, lots of different kinds but the find of the day was definitely Nemo!
Went to the markets when we got back but they had very little of interest and most sold identical stuff, pearls were the hot item.
We had Italian for dinner it felt strange sitting in a decent restaurant, we were there for the half price food but it was a class above our usual style we have been eating in.
