Day 125 Rachel's Birthday in Yogyakarta

Rachel's Birthday today but she will have to wait till she hits the shops in Singapore for her present!
We spent the day in the city firstly seeing Kraton the city within the city its home to the Sultan and is a set up a bit like the Vatican city in Rome. We firstly checked out a shadow puppet show which was incredibly slow moving almost torturous, then walked about the open areas to the public. The buildings were small and not detailed or impressive but they had some nice old relics on show.
From the Kraton we looked at the Water Palace an area of the city once filled with water but now hundreds of houses and a badly damaged few old buildings.
Next up was the bird market, the highlight of Rachel's day had loads of exotic birds, fish, turtles, cats/kittens, dogs/puppies, snakes, monkeys etc etc. Some of the cooler birds were the love birds, a wood pecker & owls. One snake in a big cage was curled up in a cabinet it's head was the size of mine and I'd guess uncurled he would be maybe 4mts long a dam big snake! Some of the animals didn't look too healthy particularly the chickens, but all were visibly struggling with the heat even the birds had their mouths open. Rachel fell in love with one puppy and wanted him as her present!!
We got a 45minute lift in a push bike back up past our hotel to a bus company to get tickets for tomorrow then dropped to our hotel by a 51year old very fit man, enough to make you feel guilty.
A big pasta late lunch then we went shopping on the main road looking at the local Batic(fabric with designs printed on them using wax), we looked in a so called student art show liked a couple of things but the sales got very pushy so we made an exit.
