With a lazy start to the day we found the noodle place for brunch the two lads from Melbourne had been raving about. Fat noodles with chilli oil, a couple of random leaves & no more than 8 pea sized bits of beef, very tasty though and a steal at 16yuan with a drink.
Our train to Haerbin was for 2:18pm but we were at the station early to sort a return ticket & onward trip. We got our return ticket for the 9th (272yuan each) but couldn't book our train to Xi-an(terracotta warriors) because availability was nil for days other than a private room (880yuan €100each). So we will check other options tomorrow.
I'm writing this as we are on the train north at up to 190kph and the temp is heading south at a rate of 4deg each time Rachel wakes to check it(currently -13).Seats are much like those from a plane, adjustable comfy & headphone jacks. Live display shows our time, speed & temp inside & out.(pic below)
We have found the people to be very friendly & helpful. Our Beijing hostel helped with accommodation today when we found our train was fast giving us an extra night in Haerbin which is now booked solid. People on the street or at transport stations all know where to direct the foreigners to the point of interest although I can only assume the porter who came past to take everyone's dinner order in the train skipped us simply because she thought communication would be too hard. We are happy though with our biscuits & pastries from our local bakery.
